2HP.ca Radio will be testing out a new stream provider from September 11 until September 14.

If all goes well with the test 100% of the broadcast will be transferred to the new stream provider. This will enable 2HP.ca Radio to have a total of 50 listener spots for the same cost as the prior stream provider (60% more bang for the buck).

Cross your fingers! Lets hope the new stream provider works out.

The All Tiesto Weekend - 24/7 Tiesto playlist has just been setup.

We're looking at ~29 hours of Tiesto sets, which means over the 3 days we should get nearly 3 full rotations of the playlist.

ENJOY the programming. The whole EDM community in Toronto is very excited for his 6-hour set on Saturday night and nothing can be a better "warm-up" than a whole whack of Tiesto!

The playlist will revert to the previous December 9 version sometime in the wee hours of Monday December 13.

I want to offer a congratulations to Kurfew, who will finish an epic 4 hour set on 2HP.ca Radio @ 02:10.

For those who aren't familiar - Kurfew is a local Toronto DJ who does impromptu live-to-air sessions on 2HP.ca Radio.

Tonight was by far one of his most spectacular sets. To hold down the flow and technical skills for 4 hours is an exhausting exercise.

Just updated the playlist today. All sets received prior to October 27 2004 have been removed. This makes the list a wee bit smaller, but much more current. Further - no classic oldie sets in this playlist either. We'll see how listener response is to a 45-day current playlist.

Bad, bad, bad. It has been way too long since there was an update to a blog.

Massive playlist update today. I've removed pretty much everything older than a few months, added in about 10 new sets and re-shuffled the rest.

Added to the website is a spiffy little 2HP.ca maple-leaf logo-button created by RobVox (http://www.robvox.com) who's Tranceportation show I air on Thursday before A State of Trance. Thanks Rob!

A few of the added sets are from up-and-coming talent from Canada - which is awesome. There is some really great DJ talent floating around out there, it would be great to receive more of it to air on 2HP.ca Radio.

I just added in 10 new sets to the playlist. At this point the playlist is HUGE - I think after a week or so of this list I'm going to prune it down to just recent (4 months or newer) sets (plus a few classics that are my favorite).

This weekend I will be at the 10th Annual World Electronic Music Festival (http://www.wemf.com/). It should be an amazing weekend, with over 200 DJs playing non-stop Friday through to Sunday.

I just got a promo record of Brian Eno - An Ending (Ascent) [Leama & Moor Remix] (http://www.discogs.com/release/284748) and I can honestly say it is one of the most beautiful tracks I've heard in a long while (perhaps since Flaming June... ;) ). I recommend you try to find it and play it whenever you want to feel a fantastic state of happiness.

Today is a good day. Why might you ask (or not)?

We have about 10 new sets to add into the playlist today. Not only have I completed the Armada Night (Perry O'Neil, Markus Schulz & Armin) but I have also put about half of Sensation White 2004 into the playlist.

In addition there is some new Misja, Marco V and 3 or 4 others.

Tonight is Sasha in Toronto - thus at 18:00 (eastern) we'll be premiering Sasha live at Dance Department from July 3 2004. The show tonight should be fantastic as it is the support tour for his Involver album - which has had phenomenal reviews.

To celebrate PvD coming to Toronto and playing tonight we are having the PvD Pre-Party on 2HP.ca Radio.

Non-stop PvD from 19:00 (June 24) to 07:00 (June 25).

I was able to drum up quite a playlist with the help of a few others, so enjoy the tunes!

At 07:00 tomorrow, we won't re-start the uber playlist -- we'll start up a pruned down version of just recent sets (plus a few classics).

Added in 3 new sets today. I'm going to keep the uber-playlist (4 days long) live until Wednesday, after which I'll prune it down to only the more recent sets (put most of the classics back into retirement for a while).

Broadcast server was upgraded overnight. The server now has more horsepower so we should see even more reliable stream connections. The upgrade did not increase the maximum number of listeners however (I'm not going to add more listener slots until I can sustain 80% capacity for a 4 week period).

Other than that - I'm getting the feeling something odd is up with the stream. For the last few weeks I've been averaging about 40% listener capacity - however for the last 72 hours or so I've been closer to 10% capacity. I'm going to reboot the server tonight and we'll see if that "fixes" whatever might be happening (with me not knowing what exactly is).

Lets all keep our fingers crossed that this week's connection stays up and fast enough to keep the new uber-playlist playing.

This move has really f' up'd the regular playlist for the last 2 weeks - and all appears to be good now. The source server (not broadcast server that listeners connect to) is supposed to have a full 10 mbit, but for some reason it's only getting about 1.5 mbit - which isn't horrible and IS fast enough to run the source - however it would be nice to get what we're paying for, right?

I added in a few more sets to the uber-playlist today - and I hope to have some more up and coming talent added by the end of the week (if they get me their CD's or upload their sets to the FTP).

Anyway - we'll keep on pluggin' and keep on playin' the tunes!

BTW - be sure to leave some feedback in the feedback section of 2HP.ca. It's nice to hear listener's comments.

STUPID, Stupid, stupid...

My move is finally completed - the 10 mbit source connection installed and working, 2HP.ca Radio back up to normal. Broadcast servers 100%.

All of the sudden at 3PM on Friday May 21 - source connection is lost. I figure perhaps just some routine maintenance. Turn on my back-up source (which only has like 12 hours of music which loops, as opposed to the massive 2HP.ca Radio playlist).

I get to the source site about 5PM. Connection still down. Call tech support - line must have been cut somewhere in the building. Won't be able to come out and investigate until Tuesday May 25 (due to long holiday weekend).

WHY ME?!?! As soon as I pretty much had things back to normal all hell breaks loose.

I'm going to try and find a solution today that will hopefully keep us from having to endure the same 12 hours of music repeated until Tuesday - wish me luck.

Talk about a nightmare.

My internet connection that was to be installed has been a royal mess-up.

The 10 mbit connection when first installed provided transfer speeds less than a dial-up modem. A technician has been out today and hopefully the issue has been resolved. I won't know until later this evening.

Updates to follow. Sorry for the delay in getting 2HP.ca Radio back up and running with the regular play-list and normal shows.

2HP.ca Radio is moving! That's right - our source server (and connection) is moving locations and thus our regular 2HP.ca Radio playlist will not be broadcasting from Tuesday May 11 2004 until Thursday May 13 2004.

No need to worry - RobVox and ASOT will still happen on Thursday - it just means that we won't be able to have DJ Ampz and Amplified Radio on Wednesday live as we normally do (it has been temporarily rescheduled to Friday).

While we're moving our source server - 2HP.ca Radio will still be blasting away w/ awesome trance. We'll have a backup relay source playing great trance and awesome tunes.

The original source should be back up late in the day on Thursday May 13 (and again RobVox and ASOT will still be live on Thursday).

The Filo & Peri party went off without a hitch. It was really amazing to see the months work of work finally pay off. Schryer, Mobius and 24_7 & Eso were great openers and closers and Filo & Peri blew the place up with amazing music.

There is a section of the site now that users can use to leave comments (readable by all). Comments are welcome. :)

Other than that - we're still truckin' and going to be adding a few new sets this week.

I have a few more sets to add into the play list this week of the psy-trance genre - which should be good.

For some reason I've noticed listenership down the last 3 days. Perhaps it is the weekend - who knows - but I'm seeing 50% of the listeners that we saw Mon, Tues, Wed and Friday of last week (Thursday is excluded because of the uber-AvB show which fills my capacity 100%).

Listener count was fantastic on Thursday for All Armin - All Day! We were actually running at 100% capacity for about 3 hours.

Thanks for all the listener support! This is a non-profit operations, so the only reason we do it is for the satisfaction we get from seeing 2HP.ca Radio being used.

I'm off to Montreal for Bal en Blanc (Armin van Buuren and Paul van Dyk) on Sunday and won't be back until Monday night. Lets hope the stream stays live (and if not there is an All Armin backup running that will pick up).

Still having the system crashing problems - but less frequently - which is very good.

I'll be adding in some more regular broadcast events (beyond the current Amp. Radio, TrancePortation and ASOT) over the next week or so.

Also - expect some additions to the website (user poll, etc). I was considering getting a complete redesign done but I like the simple and functional style of the site as it currently is - so we'll leave it be for now.

Ok, this is starting to get a little frustrating...

My radio source (with all the music on it) keeps crashing for some reason - randomly. I'm trying to find out why - restoring old mirrors of the system and still have the same problem.

It also seems to crash every time IE connects to Hotmail (time to repair IE I guess).

In the mean time I've setup a backup source (in case the main source fails). Most of my newer music and playlists are on the main source - so when it goes down the backup kicks in but it doesn't have nearly the selection of music on it - which sucks.

I'll be working all afternoon to get everything fixed - sorry for the repetitive playlist the last few days.

BTW - Rank 1 was here in Toronto last night. It was unbelievable! Uber-trance all night long - wow!

Filo & Peri are at the top of my "favorite producers" list. The last 3 or 4 months they have released some phenomenal new material and amazing remixes. Glad to have them a part of 2HP.ca Radio.

Thursday's ASOT simulcast went off without a hook (which is always a blessing).

As good as the Shoutcast DSP / Server is - there always seem to be weird little bugs that jump up and bite you right in the middle of a big event (live to air or simulcast).

I'm in the process of arranging for a few live-to-air broadcasts from clubs here in Toronto for April. These events have some fairly big DJ's playing at them - so it will be exciting to have them be a part of 2HP.ca Radio. We'll just have to see how much trouble it is for the clubs to get a high-speed connection (capable of 15k to 30k per second upload). I'll keep you all updated.

Anyway - off for the weekend - going to try and find some new sets to add into the playlist next week.

I decided to start a blog today about the trials and tribulations of running a small internet radio station.

Believe it or not – there is quite a bit of legwork that is required to even get the stream to stay live, play what you want, when you want and get listeners to even listen! J

I’ll use this blog to post the triumphs, failures and day-to-day happenings in the life of an internet radio station.
